100% Supported!!!!

We have been busy and haven’t been able to post recently.  But we wanted to write a quick note and let you know that after being here for a few days we found out that we are 100% funded financially.  God is good!!!  Thank you so much for your continued support of us and our ministry.  We know finances are just a small part of the many things you do to support us but it is a very practical one and for many your donations were not easily made, so we thank you so much!  May God bless you in your giving.

Also, please note that we have also reached our goal of having 150 people/families willing to pray for us on our regual basis.  We are actually at 159!  Praise the Lord!!!

First Week in Quito

Our first week is coming to a close, but it has been very full. We jumped right in Monday morning with Spanish classes from 8-noon. I (Kim) started in level 1 while Joel started in level 3. We both feel we have learned a lot so far and are looking forward to the day we can communicate well. Praise the Lord for our fantastic teacher, Olgita! She is so patient with us, but also pushes us to do better. Her son Caleb has been to visit with Simeon this week as her brother, Ricardo is babysitting Simeon during our classes! It has worked out well for all of us and we have enjoyed getting to know them all better.
This has certainly been a week of adjustments. Simeon went from sleeping through the night before we left to waking up 4-5 times when we got here. I think a lot of it is the noise of the city (sirens and alarms all night), but I’m sure he also knows he is in a new place. Pray for his adjustment. Last night he only woke up once…YEAH!
We have experienced many new things this week, including being surrounded by mountains and volcanos. It’s beautiful!
Although things are going well overall, we (especially me, Kim) have had a lot of homesick moments. We knew this would happen, but it is a lot harder than I thought. We miss family and friends, as well as our pups Hireq and Patah. We have been able to Skype with both parents already which has eased the homesickness a little. I just keep telling myself that I know God brought us here and that we are right where He wants us. He is with us and He is guiding us. We pray God surrounds us with friends to interact with. We already have a date night scheduled on Tuesday with Olgita and her husband Henry as well as the other missionaries in Quito, Jenny and Chris. We are excited!
Thank you for your continued love and prayers for us. We covet them daily as we face new challenges and adventures. Love from Quito!

Change of plans…

As most things in life go, 9 times out of 10, they don’t turn out how you think they will. As we write this, you may think we are sitting in our apartment in Ecuador…well, you would be wrong. We are actually in a hotel room in Miami! Yes, MIAMI! We had the unique opportunity today to get “bumped” off of our flight to Ecuador. In exchange for this, we received 2 vouchers for $800, lodging and meals overnight. It was hard to pass up because the 2 vouchers will be accessible to us to use to fly back to the States if we need to. Although it was a bit ANTI-climactic today only flying to Miami, we felt God’s hand in many ways.
First of all, we had 12 bags to check in to go to Ecuador. We were quite the site in the airport to say the least! We were able to check 5 and then dispersed the rest to willing participants from the mission team from our church. A couple of the bags were overweight and they are being very strict so we were prepared for the worst. Luckily we got a very nice American Airlines attendant that helped us and was very generous in getting ALL of our bags checked. Hopefully they will get there tomorrow with us! What a great answer to prayer as I (Kim) had many bad dreams about how the flight would go. Thanks be to God!
A way that we saw that God cares about EVERY detail was Friday night as we were packing up our LAST couple of bags, I realized I had forgotten the power cord that hooks to the breatpump. I know it seems like a very small detail, but this was a HUGE detail and something that would be been very missed if not taken. It just so happened as Joel was looking through items at our house NOT sold at the garage sale last week, he found the EXACT cord that fit the pump! WOW! What an amazing God we serve!
So, we are being treated tonight in a very nice room in a very nice city. Looking forward to a good night’s sleep and our first day in Ecuador tomorrow!
Blessings to all and may His peace be near to you as it is to us in this night.

Our Last Supper

We just wanted to let those of you know who live in the Chicagoland area that we will be having dinner at Photo’s Hot Dogs in Mount Prospect from  6 to 8 p.m. on Friday night, June 25th.  It will be our “last supper” and an opportunity for anyone interested in the area to stop and say “Adios!”  You are welcome to come and have dinner with us or just pop in to say goodbye.  The information for Photo’s is at the bottom of this post.

We also wanted to provide some updates on prayer requests.  Most of you know that we did receive our Visas so that was a big one.  Also, we did find a home for the dogs for 6 months.  Bill and Wendy Gonzalez and their family will be taking them and sharing the love with their neighbor Mary Jane.   Thank you guys so much for watching the girls for us… We will miss them greatly but it’s good to know that they will be so well cared for.

As you know, we have been at 100% for our prayer support for a little while.  We are also getting close with our financial support.  We are now at 97.6% which is about $2,500 away from our budgeted amount, so we are almost there.  Thank you to all of you for your generosity and financial partnership in our ministry.

Please pray for us in this final time of packing and saying goodbyes.  This time has been some of the most difficult we have experienced.

Here is the information for Photo’s.  Again we’ll be there from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, June 25th.

Answers to prayers, updates, preparing to leave…

Just thought we would update you on a few things we have been up to. Thank you to those of you who prayed for us to receive our Visas! SUCCESS! We received them within 2 hours of applying. Thanks be to God! It was a bit crazy the day we went to get the Visas. All 3 of us had to go downtown to Chicago. We didn’t realize that on that day, at that time, there was a parade of over 2 million (YES MILLION) people to celebrate the Stanley Cup win of the Chicago Blackhawks. We had to wait and were over 45 minutes late for our appointment. the office we had to go to was in the middle of the 2 million people. Luckily the consulate was gracious and still gave us our VISAS, thanks to lots of prayers from you. Thank you!

Just a couple days after that, we headed out to Nebraska and Iowa to visit two Covenant churches out there: Ceresco Covenant in Ceresco, Nebraska and Faith Covenant in Essex, IA.  Our friends who are the pastors of these congegations and the folks in the church themselves were just wonderful!  They were so kind and loving in listening to us present what God has laid on our hearts and so supportive of everything we are planning.  It was such a nice trip and a needed respite from the craziness in Chicago.
Last weekend we had a garage sale, a ‘sell all of our life possessions’ garage sale. It was a great success, we made $1215 toward our ministry, which is, by far, the most we have ever made at a garage sale. We thought we sold a lot but realized that we still had a lot of things left over. Actually, enought to fill a 10 foot UHAUL. Thank you to all those that helped, especially our families who came and worked like crazy!
We are currently staying in Goshen, IN with Joel’s parents. We took all of the leftover belongings after the garage sale to their house. We stored a lot of it, but currently all of the things we are planning to take with us are strung out in their basement and we are figuring out how to pack it all.
In addition to getting ready, we are saying our goodbyes to family and friends. As you can imagine, this is very difficult. Please continue to pray for us during this time of transition. We are also going to be leaving our dogs with friends in our neighborhood in Mt Prospect. We thank the Lord for providing this, but know that it will be difficult not to have them for 6 months.
Blessings and love to you all from the Delp’s!

Maybe in a few years he will be playing in the World Cup!

Immediate Prayer Requests!

We have two immediate prayer requests this morning.  First off, we have an appointment at 11:00 a.m. Central Time today with the Ecuadorian Consulate in Chicago to get our two year Missionary Visas.  Please pray that everything goes well.  If there are problems, our departure could be delayed.

Secondly, you can see our dogs pictured below: Patah & Hireq.  We have found out recently that we will not be able to take them our first 6 months of service (because of our flight) and we are needing to find them a home for 6 months.  Are you, by chance, interested?

Quick Update and Prayer Request!

Sorry it has to be a quick update but we are amidst a week and a half intensive training event in Chicago (from 8 a.m. to 6 or 7 p.m. everyday in Chicago).  It’s great, but definitely has us worn out.  We are at 96% of our financial support raised and 100% of our prayer support!  Thank you so much for your support!!

One quick prayer request: we are (hopefully) going to the Ecuadorian Consulate in downtown Chicago tomorrow to get our Visas.  Please pray for our appointment at 9:00 a.m.  We say hopefully because if some of the paperwork from Ecuador doesn’t show up today that is supposed to then we cannot go.  So… please pray that the paperwork shows up and that everything goes well tomorrow with getting our Visas!
