Baking for Jesus!

holiday-cookies2Kim along with the help from our church’s Mission Board put on a Bake Sale last weekend with proceeds going to support our future ministry.  It was a huge success!!!  We had a ton of donated baked goods that were delicious!  And a lot of people had fun in taking part in supporting us by supporting their taste buds.  It was a lot of fun and very successful for us. Thanks to everyone who was involved and helped out!!

Thanksgiving Wishes!

efi-therm1Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!  We hope your Thanksgiving Holiday is a wonderful time with family and giving thanks for the many special blessings we have from the Lord in this last year!

Sorry that it has been so long since we have last posted but we have much to be thankful about.

We actually have very big news!  We have been working hard to figure out what our language school and living arrangements in Ecuador were going to be.  We now have them all figured out!!!  It’s completely different than what we have been planning.  Instead of going to Costa Rica for language school, we are actually going to be moving directly to Quito, Ecuador next June and moving into the apartment where we will be living the next two years.  It is going to be vacated by someone that is currently living in it in July of 2010.  So it will be perfect for us to move in and take the place over without having to repurchase a lot of the stuff the apartment already has.  This huge blessing means that we don’t have to worry about moving to two different countries and getting the Visa’s for both countries.  Instead, we can move directly to the place where we will be living for the next two years.  This will make it much easier for us with a newborn baby.

Kim’s pregnancy is going well and she is studying hard for her final Board Certification exam for becoming a Nurse Practitioner.  This test is December 2nd so please bathe her in prayer that day!

Because we now have our living situation and language school figured out and also that now we will have a baby with us, we had to refigure our budget.  It did go up significantly.  Thanks be to God that we also received a stream of supporters that committed to partnering with us at the same time, so our support percentage still went up! We now have 64 individuals/families that have agreed to pray for us while in Ecuador and we are looking to have 150, so that means we are at 43% in prayer support.   We are also up to 46% of what is needed for finances.  Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR LOVE AND SUPPORT!!!  We are thank you for you all this Thanksgiving!

Alpha comes to the Delphouse

alphausaKim and I are hosting the The Alpha Course in our home on Sunday nights.  This was an exciting opportunity for us because some of our neighbors have recently started attending our church and this way we can just have people “come over to our place” for Dinner and a Movie.  I (Joel) am having a lot of fun hosting the small group.  We have had some lively discussion already.  If you aren’t familiar with The Alpha Course, you can check it out here: http://www.alphausa.org/

If you just want the jist of it, The Alpha Course is a course that meets on a weekly basis that takes a look at basics of Christianity and tries to help answer some of life’s deeper questions: What is the meaning of life? What happens when we die? Etc.  It does this through a series of talks on different questions about Christianity: Who is Jesus?  Why did Jesus die? How can I be sure of my faith? Etc.

The main thing that I love about Alpha is that it is so safe for non-believers.  Alpha welcomes skeptic, athiests, and the like.  We meet in a home so that people aren’t scared away by a church building.  There are a lot of people there that are available to welcome all the newcomers each week and help them feel at home.  A wonderful meal is prepared each week for the guests so it is safe to say that everyone feels very welcomed and taken care of.

At our church, we are actually running Alpha for the 8th time.  We haven’t seen incredibly large growth because of this, but we have seen a lot of small successes by way of non-Christians coming to faith.  Also, it has been great for our congregation to come be a part of it, re-establish their grounding in their faith and get to know other church members at a much deeper level.  Much deeper than what you can get on a Sunday by Sunday basis.

I have had a lot of experience with Alpha so if anyone has any questions about starting The Alpha Course at your church, please just let me know.

Third Missionary being added to the Delp Team!

We just wanted to announce that we are adding a 3rd missionary to the Delp Team.  See a picture of him/her.  Gender to be determined.  He/she should be joining the team in early March.

baby1

Thank you so much for your support of us through prayer and finances.

We are now up to 54 official prayer partners and we are looking to secure 150 people/families that will pray for us on a regular basis, so that means we are at 36% in prayer support.  Woohoo!!!

For the finances we are now all the way up to 38% of what is needed.  Praise the Lord!!!!

Do you know of any one or any churches that you think would be interested in joining into a ministry partnership with us as we get ready to head to Ecuador???  If so, please let us know and please be praying for more folks to come along side us.

Updates:

– Kim has successfully completed her Residency and her final presentation.  Yeah!  Now, she is studying for her Boards to be taken in the next few months.

– Joel is doing his thing at the church and with Verizon.  He will be hosting the Alpha Course at our home this fall.

– One specific item we are now asking for prayer on is for the sale of our house in Indiana.  We really need to have it sold before moving to Ecuador.  They say that finances are the number one cause bringing people home from the mission field and we already have educational debt, so we would like to rid of this debt also.  You can see a picture of the house here.myhouse

Our Support Letter is Out

20thermometer1

We just got done sending our support letter out and so we will give you our first update since we are just at the beginning stages of garnering our support.

We currently have 8 official prayer partners and we are looking to secure 150 people/families that will pray for us on a regular basis, so that means we are at just over 5% in prayer support.

As far as finances go, God has already brought us almost $8,000 in support (though almost $2,000 was used in recent expenses for the Annual Meeting and for the 2009 Adminstrative Costs) and we have $225 in monthly commitments, which means we are already around 11% of what is needed.  Praise the Lord!!!!
