ismailIsmail has lived in his community in Somalia for more than 10 years. Ismail has witnessed the effects of charcoal production on the environment and livelihoods firsthand. But he is not alone in his observations. With support from CWR partner World Relief, he and others have conducted campaigns to raise awareness about the dangers of charcoal production, to lobby local government authorities, and to agree together about ways to stop the cutting down of trees. Ismail and other members of the CBO have succeeded in mobilizing their community in re-establishing customary laws that bans charcoal production and trade and to hold those accountable who get involved with the charcoal business they now enforce punitive measure against those who break these laws. Thanking God for Ismail’s community leadership and finding inspiration from him today.
