“Thanks to the support received from the ECC, over 20,000 beneficiaries across 9 countries have received emergency lifesaving support.” – World Relief

Covenant World Relief partners with World Relief to reach more communities around the world. From time to time we are asked what the relationship is between Covenant World Relief and World Relief. Below are a few answers to some of these frequent questions:

Are Covenant World Relief and World Relief the same organization?

No, Covenant World Relief (CWR) is the Evangelical Covenant Church’s response to human suffering and injustice in the world. For over 60 years, Covenant churches and members have supported CWR as CWR partners with local leaders in the transformation of individuals, families, and communities. Through disaster relief and community development, CWR responds to the most vulnerable. Our mission is to join God in loving, serving, and working together with the poor, the powerless, and the marginalized.

World Relief is a nonprofit organization with evangelical roots that calls the Church to serve the most vulnerable. World Relief is headquartered in Baltimore, MD and is the compassionate service arm of the National Association of Evangelicals. The mission of World Relief envisions the most vulnerable people transformed economically, socially, and spiritually.

If I give to World Relief is it the same as giving to Covenant World Relief?

A gift to World Relief is outside of the Covenant Church and is not to Covenant World Relief. World Relief works with 40 different denominations and thousands of churches. Covenant World Relief partners on some projects with World Relief, but the majority of CWR disaster relief and community development projects operate independently of World Relief. CWR works with most of its international partners directly in order to build trusting relationships and ensure the responsible use of resources.

How does Covenant World Relief partner with World Relief?

CWR has recently partnered with World Relief in many countries including South Sudan, India, Congo, Philippines, and Kenya. CWR and World Relief helped to provide emergency food for malnourished children (along with referral to stabilization centers and hospitals), management of health centers and training of farmers. Governmental instability prevented the national equipment of local health centers, so CWR and World Relief worked with local leaders to ensure basic health services continued to operate. Flooding assistance was provided to communities in India and in the Philippines. Additional support was sent to Congo and Kenya for peacekeeping programs.
