SAM_3118The new school year is in full swing in Thailand. With the start of the new school year brings many changes. For the Tutorial Learning Center (TLC) in Nan, Thailand, that means growing in size. The TLC now houses 20 resident students. Three students have transitioned to high school, which entails a much longer commute across the district. The high school is 20 kilometers (over 12 miles) away, and with that distance brings new challenges. The other 17 students are still located at a middle school, a five minute walking distance away. Teachers at the middle school are continually encouraged and impressed by the work ethic of students from the TLC. These students continue to work hard both in the classroom and out.

Multi-purpose building

In other news, the construction of the multi-purpose building is complete (click to see a picture of the foundation less than a year ago)! It houses a computer lab, classroom, internet communications center, and shop class. The internet communications center allows the residents to communicate with other teachers and professors around the world. While the TLC is already connected to a university in Pennsylvania, many look forward to the new partnership between TLC, other nonprofit organizations, and the University of Chiang Mai. These partnerships will allow the TLC to continue to grow and further its mission of educating students about mountain agriculture. We are so grateful for the work TLC is doing in the mountains of Thailand and for the opportunity to partner with them on this journey.
