Valentine’s Dance

Sponsored by the Senior Class, the Valentine Dance is their last big dinner / dance to host. This year they faced the unusual problem of rains coming early, which led to a major discussion: where to set up? Outside on the basketball court, or inside.

A day early they started the prep work for the dinner of “brochettes” beef kabobs and veggie kabobs with scalloped potatoes on the side.

The class finally decided to compromise by setting up tables in and around the pavillion. Then if / when the rain starts, they could move all the tables under the pavillion.

Meanwhile, Caleb and Mr. Kato had set up 2 grills for the meat kabobs and veggie kabobs.

The younger guests found their way to the picnic tables on the soccer field just above the pavillion.

Sure enough, just before the dinner was to be served, the rains came — and it rained hard and long! So all the picnic tables, and 160 guests moved into the pavillion. The meal was excellent, and the company… cozy (and a little cold & damp nearest the outside edges).

Dinner is seerved

Dessert of brownies & ice cream were delivered from the kitchen by umbrella-escorted servers!

Keeping the ice cream (and server) dry!

Guests were then shuttled by umbrella carriers over to the auditorium for the dancing portion of the evening. These school dances at RFIS are unique in that they’re intended for families and friends of all ages to participate.
