Hearts and flowers of Valentine’s Day do not escape us at RFIS. During the week of Valentine’s the senior class sold lollipops to be delivered to that special someone or just anyone we wanted to encourage.
And the senior class hosted a Valentine’s dinner dance. Dinner was a wonderful meal of steak kabobs (brochettes), rice and salad.
This year’s special addition to the event ws a live band! They were very good, adding to the ambiance of the evening.
The very next weekend one of our seniors organized a special evening to raise awareness and funds for anti-human trafficking. The Blue Heart Music Night. Several students showed off their musical talents with instruments, and in song.
Meanwhile, there was a silent dessert auction throughout the hour long event, to raise money.
So what, you may ask, is the deal with blue hearts? It is the UN’s initiative to raise awareness about human trafficking: Blue represents the cold hearts of traffickers, and the sadness of the victims.
This special event, initiated by one student, with assistance from several of our students raised over 300,000 francs cfa or around $500 USD. The money will be donated to an organization within Cameroon to rescue trafficked victims and train women and children in skills that will support them so they’re no longer vulnerable.
