Annual Meeting Highlights

One of the fun things we get to do when we’re in the US is to attend the annual meeting of the Covenant Church — aka “Gather ’14”

During the business meetings a reorganization of the denominational structure was approved.  For us that means that what we’ve always called “World Mission” is now “Serve Globally”.  Same function, different name.

And there was a lengthy discussion before approval of the Resolution on Immigration.  Not that the Covenant has come up with a solution to the problem of immigration nor have we tidied up the confusing immigration laws, but simply have made a statement regarding a biblically appropriate treatment of the “aliens” we find in our communities.   Besides the business meetings during the day, there are evening services.

Highlights included the Friday night commissioning of new missionaries.  The service begins with the parade of flags from all the countries where the Covenant Church has missionaries and partnerships.
