Power Problems Prompt Gerry-Rigging of the Generator

Sunday night Ron got a call.  The power pole holding up the lines going in to Rain Forest International School and to the 2 hostels adjacent to it had fallen and they’d lost power.

That’s a problem.  The school’s generator had not been working for a few months.  It is supposed to automatically kick in when the city power cuts out.  But that has not been working lately.

Ron and the guys work on the generator and its control panel

So Monday morning, we got our best (most motivated) minds on the problem immediately.  Gord (dorm dad at CMF Hostel) and Dan (dorm dad at UBAC Hostel) and Ron (Director of Technical Service at RFIS) put their heads together and by the grace of God, some know-how and new parts, they got the generator working again… for now.

Praise God that the generator is working.  Pray that the power company replaces the rotted out power pole soon so we can get back on city power.

P.S.  That was the short story.  The long story is that Tues. morning the control panel caught fire, and we were out of power again until Gord, Dan and Ron were able to get it going again.  Meanwhile the RFIS Administrative Officer Norbert was going from office to office of the power company trying to get the bureaucratic machine moving so that the pole would be replaced and restore us to city power.  In the end it’s now Friday, a holiday, and MAYBE the power is back.  Hopefully it’ll be restored by tomorrow when ACT exam takes place at RFIS.
