Can a Veterinarian be a Missionary?

Absolutely!  A wide variety of professions are needed in international missions today, and that includes veterinarians.  Dr. Doug Lewis (DVM) writes, “Since 1993, our family has lived and worked in rural Cameroon, Africa.  We serve here with Converge Worldwide/Baptist General Conference as missionaries.  I am a missionary veterinarian who helps people with their livestock and tells them about Jesus Christ.”  (By the way, the Lewis’ are able to serve in Cameroon thanks to Rain Forest International School)

Another veterinarian, who is also an ordained Covenant pastor Lorraine Beaumont, is leading 3 vet students on a mission trip to visit Dr. Lewis this month.  Though this is her 2nd trip to Cameroon in 6 years, Lorraine leads several such trips each year to various countries.  Perhaps the Lord will lead more vets to consider missions as a result of these experiences.  Their expertise is needed greatly here in Africa to help build relationships with people whose livlihoods depend on raising livestock.
