You’ve Got Mail… maybe

Did you notice at the bottom of our emails where the mailing address is listed… we wrote “letters only (packages probably won’t make it)”?

Well even a letter in a big envelope packed full and a bit heavier than usual was too great a temptation for someone working in the postal system.  Granted, the envelope was a bit worn around the edges even in the unopened spots.  But it had clearly been ripped open and contents emptied.

This is what an envelope came through the mail like

Recently we Covenant missionaries received mailings from our home office in Chicago.  I’m guessing they had contained the January copy of the Covenant Companion, a Covenant date book and directory of Covenant churches, a Friends of World Mission newsletter, and hopefully nothing more.

One of the Covenant envelopes opened just enough to pull out anything interesting

Our mail is picked up at the post office by someone in Wycliffe, and brought to their administration office nearby where we pick it up in our mailbox.  This time, placed in the mailbox labeled “Evangelical Covenant” there were a few open envelopes, and anything listed above (since it says “Covenant” on it).  Actually I was surprised that not more of the date books were missing… but I do wonder if there were any Christmas cards taken by someone hoping for gifts of money inside.

So, please do not send us anything really valuable in the mail.  We may not get it.  And to Covenant office staff, keep the Companions coming by mail.  When it’s only a magazine, they come through.  I guess the thick envelopes were just too tempting!
