Big Wind

There was a big wind that blew through here. No, I’m not talking about political candidates.

Broken tree and palm branches down after a strong windy storm

As rainy season comes to a close (usually in the month of November) we never know when we’ll have that last blast of a storm. Well, it wasn’t the last of the season, but we did have high winds and hard rain that blew down 6 years of growth in some of our fruit trees around campus.

Just a week earlier a rainstorm blew this jackfruit tree over near the garage.

Heavy with jackfruits, this tree blew over one afternoon during a storm.

And we just lost another jackfruit – one next to the wall by the garage.

The greatest loss was an inga tree next to the soccer field.

Just a couple months earlier this tree had provided shade, fruit and a lace for kids to climb.

Suddenly one night it blew down -- apparently it was diseased so had a poor root system, unable to hold in the wind.

We also lost a lot of banana plants

In the Prayer Garden this lovely cyprus tree blew down. We tried to prop itup but every time it rained it just blew over again.

In the end one of our teachers decided to cut it to the right size and took it home for a Christmas tree!
