A Shocking Discovery

Deicing salt in Africa? Really?!

I couldn’t believe it.  Shopping in downtown Yaounde the other day, I found a bag of “Deicing Salt” on the shelf!  I know in places far north of here there is plenty of ice and snow and sleet and coldness.  But here?  We’re sweltering in the heat of dry season!  What on earth?!

Then I turned the bag around and read the back panel — “Ice Cream Salt”.  Oh.  That explains it.  Not sure how many ice cream makers there are around here, but if you are in Yaounde and want salt for your ice cream maker, go to Landmark.  They have it.

  1. I remember you Ekstrands making ice cream with the bucket and crank. Makes me wonder how many more of those are out here. It just cracked me up to see a picture of a school bus in the snow one one side of the package – definitely looked out of place!
