January 2013 Prayer Update

Praises for December

  1. First semester at Rain Forest International School (RFIS) ended well.  The last days were stressful for everyone, but we enjoyed a soccer tournament for the Jr and Sr boys teams, a Christmas concert by the Middle School and High School choirs and a fun filled Christmas party the last day before break.
  2. Praise God with us for safe travels on our vacation trip to Gamboula, Central African Republic over Christmas break (Dec. 21 to Jan. 5).  We’re also thankful for the much needed rest and time with good friends.  News of rebel activity to the east of the capital Bangui had us discussing security issues and keeping an ear out for news, but being just a 30 minute drive from Cameroon, we were not anxious.
  3. While in CAR we were reminded that 10 years ago we had to leave Yaloke, CAR (Ben’s birth place) due to civil unrest.  Praising God for continuing to use us in ministry in Africa up to now.
  4. We were also thankful for the chance to visit Berberati, CAR where we worked from 2005 to 2007.  We had lunch with Alexis, a dear friend whom we’ve known for 14 years.  It was encouraging to see many others with whom we used to work in Berberati.

Prayer Requests for January

  1. Pray the students and staff at RFIS get the second semester off to a good start readjusting to the work and study routine.
  2. Pray for continued good progress on the duplex construction.  The 2nd side of the duplex is about to have the 2nd story floor poured.
  3. Pray for peace in Central African Republic.  Rebels stopped their advance toward Bangui, waiting for peace talks scheduled for next week.  (a peace agreement was signed, now we wait to see if all parties honor that agreement).
  4. Pray for Ben – it seems he’s got malaria or some sort of virus, with a high fever as I type this Jan. 10.
  5. Pray for the Parks, a Korean family who are currently in France, preparing to come to Cameroon for ministry to university students.  One of their 2 children will be working on English and attending 7th grade classes when they arrive at the end of January.

Thank you for praying for our ministry in Cameroon,
