Trash Update

Maybe the only thing more unusual than Ron fixing up a neat and orderly trash site is my interest in it!  I’m just amused.

Here’s how trash was taken care of at RFIS when we first arrived in the summer of 2010.

Fall 2010 - All trash piled in a heap and burned on the ground

Either he’s a natural neat freak, or it’s his German-American heritage, but Ron likes order; just because it’s trash, doesn’t mean it has to be trashy!  So a year ago he did some landscaping in the trash area, planted sisal as a border, and got some barrels.

January 2011 - sisal planted, some order brought to the trash area.

And here’s how it looks today (well, yesterday).  The sisal has grown into a nice prickly border keeping students from wandering in and getting hurt on sharp things (even though they’re supposed to wear shoes, they are TCKs and tend to have aversion to footwear).  There is also a cement structure for burning, and a couple barrels for the non-burnables.

February 2012 - A beautiful trash site!
