RFIS Prayer Chapel & Garden taking shape

Lower foundation going in the ground

This summer Ron and the crew have been busy getting the Prayer Chapel built.  It has a very complicated design requiring a lot of planning before ever putting a shovel to the ground.  But finally they got the foundation done in 2 stages.

The floor is filled in and ready to be poured.

Then came the really tricky part – lining up the columns of cement block that will make up the “wall” of the chapel.  Each block is lined up according to a reference point, and is distanced at specific intervals.  This design allows for privacy and visibility at the same time.

The wall rises up, like so many tree trunks.

After the columns are completed, the next step is to put a roof on it.  That will be another interesting engineering feat – as there are no strait edges and the curves are unique.

With the Prayer Garden in the foreground, Chapel in the background, you can see how this is going to be a beautiful spot, centrally located on the campus, for meditation and prayer.  Each class is responsible for their own plot in the garden.  Some students brought plants from their “home villages” and they’re growing beautifully!
