July 2011 Prayer Update

School is out and summer is here! July in Cameroon – is the coldest month of the year here, I believe. So enjoy your heat, sun, lakes and pools while we “freeze” (which means we need long sleeves and maybe even socks!). We Zs are looking forward to celebrating US Independence Day at the American Embassy’s party! This will be a first for us in all our years overseas.

As you Americans celebrate 235 years of independence, remember the best position is complete dependence on God. Thank you for lifting these praises and requests to the Lord.

For June praise God with us for

1. Michelle and 10th graders survived an intense period of exams (IGCSE – needed for students from England and useful to others if they do well).

2. RFIS students and staff finished strong. All the end of school year festivities have passed, graduation of the 18 seniors went well. And the grand exodus of missionaries leaving for their passport countries is pretty much over.

3. Michelle’s trip to the US went better than expected. The flight out of Yaoundé was delayed 24 hours due to a mechanical problem (thankful for routine aircraft maintenance that caught a leaky fuel line in one of the engines). When her corresponding flights were rerouted, she ended up with a more direct flight to GRR.

4. Thank you for praying with me for discernment regarding how to give sustainable help to 2 Congolese refugee women. I still have no answers, but I just learned that a 3rd woman who seemed to be in great need has been lying to me. It’s disappointing, but now I need to confront her – so pray for that confrontation. Also, prayers for these women have opened my eyes to young Cameroonian women who really are in need – so please continue to pray for vulnerable and needy women here and ways that we as a Covenant mission may be able to help.

5. Paul & Sheryl Noren have arrived in Congo – for the first time in 15 years, where they serve the Congo Covenant Church along with Marta Klein. It was a long and eventful trip, and they’re glad to be back there.

6. Sharon Davis has returned to Yaoundé from a 5 week trip to several cities and villages in Cameroon. Pray for discernment as we work with her to sort through all she has learned about the development needs and ministry opportunities throughout Cameroon.

7. We praise God this month for Ron, celebrating another birthday; and for 17 years of marriage!

Pray with us in July for:

1. Our vacation trip July 8-15 to a mission guest house in the Northwest region of Cameroon.   While on vacation we will also meet people working in other organizations and explore possiblities for future ministries for the Covenant in this region.  Pray for those meetings, that God’s purpose will be fulfilled and that we’ll be sensitive to His leading.

2. Michelle has had hives since being back in GR. Pray for relief.  Pray us all continued good health.

3. Summer is transition time for missionaries. Pray for those who are going back to their passport countries to connect with supporting churches and individuals. Pray for students who will have to adjust to the culture of their passport countries. And pray for those who are returning or arriving for the first time here in Cameroon to serve; especially children of missionaries who have to adjust to life here.

4. Several teachers we’re counting on for both RFIS (Middle and High School) and PRS (Elementary School) have not yet raised full support. Pray that they’ll be fully supported in time to be here for the start of the school year.

5. Konroy and Heidi Boeckel, who have been here for one year are now in the US connecting with ministry partners in order to gain sufficient support to return for a 2nd year.

3. Continue to pray for my friend whose husband is greatly influenced by his unbelieving mother and sister. Pray for their marriage and for summer plans (which now include many family members coming to stay with them in their 2 bedroom house).
