November 2010 Prayer Update

It’s already time for our November prayer update!  November – a season of Thanksgiving.  While the Thanksgiving Holiday is not celebrated here in Cameroon, we Americans still have a strong habit of focussing on gratitude in this month… and not ONLY because Nathan and I celebrate our birthdays this month (smile).

October is just about the most rainy month here in Yaounde.  At this writing, we’ve had 10 straight days of rain!  Thankfully it usually only rains for a little while in the late afternoon or evening, with lots of hot sun by mid-morning.  So much rain inspires thanks to God for good crops especially for those villages farther north who will be experiencing a long dry season soon.  We invite you to join with us in praise for the following from October, and to lift up to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine, our requests for November.

Praises from October:

1. Michelle turned 15! We’re thankful that she is becoming the godly woman we pray her daily to become.

2. Earlier we asked prayer for discernment in choosing a house helper. We have hired Edna, a sweet woman and great help with household chores.

3. October break (first week of Oct.) went well for the kids. Ron did keep working, and got a lot of work done at RFIS and on the new UBAC hostel property.

4. The family is healthy, and Ron and the workers have been kept safe in their work.

5. Michelle’s class sponsored an International Buffet night at RFIS. The evening was a great success, with good food, entertainment, a fun family atmosphere, and the students worked very well as a team to make it a success.

Requests for November:

1. for Edna’s (see #2 above) family – her father-in-law has passed away (complications of diabetes).

2. for daily discernment regarding people who come to the door or meet us on the street with various needs.

3. that God would call teachers for RFIS (middle and high school) and PRS (elementary) to come teach next school year.

4. that God would call hostel parents for next school year to serve in the UBAC (shared Covenant and Free Church) hostel.

5. that God would lead us to new ministry in orphan care and / or combatting human trafficking. Short term missionaries Konroy and Heidi Boekel went with students the last Saturday of Oct. to an orphanage in town. This may be a good place for Heidi to use her preschool teaching skills to work on a regular basis.

6. for high school students seeking places to do community service (which is required for school, with hopes of inspiring an ongoing lifestyle of service).

Thank you so much for your prayers, encouragement and various types of support.

  1. Hi, Janet! I just have a very quick minute to dash a note off to tell you that you are often thought of. Missions Commission has been so busy with planning for our weekend event, and last night’s meeting was 4 hours long, including a visit from Tom Halgren. We delight in receiving your updates ~ in such a short period of time, it seems that you’re very well settled in. May God continue to bless you abundantly!

    Susan
