August 2010 Prayer and Praise

We are so thankful that our move to Yaounde, Cameroon has gone so smoothly. As we’re settling in to our house and getting ready for the start of the 2010-11 school year (already) we appreciate your prayer on our behalf.

Praise God with us that in July…
* we had opportunity to fellowship with members of Thornapple Covenant Church our last Sunday in the USA
* we were able to get physicals for kids just days before departure
* Paul & Sheryl Noren, fellow Covenant missionaries and dear friends, helped us tremendously with final packing and preparation for our trip.
* we felt great encouragement and support from many dear friends and family in our last days in GR.
* we were able to spend about an hour or 2 with Covenant missionary friends Barb & Steve Swanson in the Brussels, Belgium airport.
* dispite a 2 hour delay at the Grand Rapids airport, we made all our connections and all our luggage arrived in Yaounde.
* Covenant missionaries Karl Noren and Jeff Stoker met us at the Yaounde airport; Stokers and Norens helped get us re-oriented to African life.
* little by little we’re getting settled into our house, getting acclimated to this time zone, and getting settled into our house.
* the RFIS move to the new site continues – Ron was able to help quite a bit, moving cabinets, etc. when we first arrived.
* that 3 new churches have joined our ministry team, providing prayer and financial support.

For August please pray…
* for the start of the new school year for Michelle & Nathan, other students and staff Aug. 5 at RFIS
* for the start of the elementary Parent Run School for Ben, other students and staff
* for us to fit into our roles here – wisdom in not taking on too much at the beginning (the needs are great).
* for continued construction at RFIS; there are many details that need fine-tuning in order for the school to be complete.
* for wisdom in choosing a gal to help with housework so I can be of more use in the community.
* for the students living in the 3 hostels and the 3 sets of hostel parents (all 3 couples are new to this job this year).
* that God would provide support for the remaining teachers may be able to come fill their teaching positions. Both high school and elementary school are anxious for teachers to come, pending adequate financial support.

We thank you for support in prayer as we get used to life in Africa again, this time with older kids who are dealing with culture shock in their own ways. And thank you for supporting us in prayer and encouragement (mainly on facebook! and emails) as we figure out our new roles here, new schedules, responsibilities, and continue to discern how exactly God would use us in this setting
