Kick-Off Day 2014

It’s the start of a new school year!  The first day of school is orientation for all studnts.  The 2nd day is the completion of orientation and in the afternoon “Kick-Off Day”!  I’ve heard students say it’s their favorite day of the year.  During these first 2 days of school students are familiarized with the campus, the schedule, rules, and dress code in some very fun and creative ways.

Each class made up a skit to demonstrate how to / or how not to behave in school.

Students perform skits to demonstrate rules & proper behavior in school.

Students and staff were then put into teams — each team consisting of students from different grades, and teaching staff as well as maintenance staff.  They were given a list of things to video or photograph themselves doing as a team, such as…

Photograph your team making a pyramid

And in the end all photos and videos were compiled and edited into one video presentation which was shown.

After lunch the real games began.  Staff and students were split into 2 teams, given water guns, water balloons, and guidelines for the game.   And the rest of the day was crazy with running, chasing, throwing and squirting water.  I did wonder how students would be able to take their teachers seriously after chasing around with them the second day of school.  But, that’s just the way it is at RFIS.  Students learn when it’s ok to be ridiculous, and when it’s time to be serious.  Just another reason I love this job!
