River Baptism

Baptism at the river that crosses the road to the airport 6 km from home

Remember the story from Acts 8?  “As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, ‘Look, here is water. Why shouldn’t I be baptized?’”

It was more pre-planned than that on Sunday afternoon here in Yaounde.  We’d known about it for at least a week.  On this rainy afternoon several vehicles caravaned from the neighborhood where we live to a river 6 km away and parked along the side of the very busy road.

We gathered at the river to hear testimony from 14 young people.  Most of them were children of missionaries, and two Cameroonians who attend the International Christian Church of Yaounde.  Dispite the cool drizzle, quite a crowd gathered to support and cheer them on.

Being children of missionaries doesn’t guarantee salvation.  Each person chooses whether to follow Jesus or not.  Praise God these young people made a public (very public, judging by the number of passing cars, trucks and loaded busses) confession of faith in Jesus Christ.  Please remember to pray for the children of missionaires – that each one would choose to follow Jesus and cultivate a growing relationship with him.
