Mt. Cameroon Climb 2015

2015-01 Mt Cam profile

It’s an active volcano which last erupted in 2000.

It’s the highest peak in West and Central Africa.  From the base at 3280 feet (1,000 m) to the summit at 13,435 feet (4095 m), hiking to the top is like climbing a stairway to heaven.

It’s the ultimate goal for most students in the Running Club at RFIS.

Mount Cameroon.  From the humid forest at the base to the wind whipped peak nearing freezing temperatures, the beauty of God’s creation is breath taking.

The first day they drove from Yaounde to Buea at the base of the mountain.  Day 2 they climbed to the summit and part way back down – about 12 hours of hiking.  Day 3 they completed the descent and drove to the beach at Limbe.  Day 4 return to Yaounde.  Here are a few pictures from their hike.

Good hiking shoes are what you need for a mountain climb, right?  Let’s zoom in on Ben’s footwear…

Crazy boy likes to hike in sandals (going down at least) -- his feet were black from the lava/dirt by the time he reached the bottom
