Grace, amazing grace

Last month I shared a quote from Jonathan Edwards, about sin and confession, meaning only to emphasize my personal need to not judge others.  Our sweet brother, Tim, brought to my attention how negative that resolution appears and encouraged me to focus on the gift of grace.  I am currently reading Henri Nouwen’s The Return of the Prodigal Son with my email book study buddy, Susan, and the depth of God’s unconditional love and mercy has been brought home to me in waves.  When you discuss the story of the prodigal son, the usual question is which son you most resonate with?  Nouwen addresses the usual, but goes on to encourage his readers to work their way through accepting the Lord’s unconditional love as prodigal son and/or jealous brother and then move on to become most like the father in the story.  To become a person who welcomes, forgives, and loves deeply, a person who lives out grace, amazing grace.  Yes.

Mercies new every morning.  Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of Creation!  Oh my soul praise him for he is my help and salvation!

About danforth

As Covenant missionaries, we are working with all the tribal groups of the Central African Republic (CAR) but are trying to give special attention to the Fulani, a Musxlim, cattle herding, and semi-nomadic people group. We live on an experimental/training farm, near a mission station which has a hospital plus bible and nursing schools. We are establishing relationships with the local people groups through compassion ministries; Roy through agriculture and Aleta through public health and visitation, in order, ultimately, to share the good news of Jesus the Messiah with them. CAR is one of the least developed countries in the world and is currently in continual crisis (since the coup in March 2013), so reaching out in compassion is key to reaching their hearts. Due to the ongoing conflict and resultant ethnic cleansing in CAR, we are crossing the border to interact with our Fulani contacts.
