Bomxbite or bust

When we want to visit friends sometimes it takes a little more than just walking next door or even a little more than driving over the bridge across the border into Cameroon.  Roy & Kim went to see friends in a little village, yes, across the river and border, but not across the bridge.  First they took their motorcycles to the river’s edge, over 15 minutes’ very messy trails.

Then they climbed into a dugout canoe, and paid about $1 to be taken across the river.

Once on the other side, they hiked on a trail, through rainforest and grassland/farm plots, for about 40 minutes.  A bit more of an adventure, and the gift of smiles and welcome at the other end made it completely worth it.

They visited our good friend, P, and her family.  She is an amazing gardener, and was a leader in a very active co-op when she and her family lived on our side of the river.  She is also a Muslixm, which means that she had to flee back in 2014, and was forced to start all over with a home and garden and farm.  She is just as excited about growing and eating good food as she ever was, which is heartwarming to see.

She raised her niece when her sister died, actually saved the baby from the brink of death, because she would not give up on her.  When I saw the baby’s eyes sunken and rolling back in her head, I thought I wouldn’t see her the next day.  Now she is a very healthy, happy 8-year-old.

How do I describe this woman, this friend, who is so tenacious about what she cares about?  Boisterously enthusiastic!  What if she were a Jesus follower with the same passion?  That is our hope and prayer.  Would you pray with us that the Spirit would move in her heart and life, that she would understand how much the Lord loves her?

About danforth

As Covenant missionaries, we are working with all the tribal groups of the Central African Republic (CAR) but are trying to give special attention to the Fulani, a Musxlim, cattle herding, and semi-nomadic people group. We live on an experimental/training farm, near a mission station which has a hospital plus bible and nursing schools. We are establishing relationships with the local people groups through compassion ministries; Roy through agriculture and Aleta through public health and visitation, in order, ultimately, to share the good news of Jesus the Messiah with them. CAR is one of the least developed countries in the world and is currently in continual crisis (since the coup in March 2013), so reaching out in compassion is key to reaching their hearts. Due to the ongoing conflict and resultant ethnic cleansing in CAR, we are crossing the border to interact with our Fulani contacts.
