It’s only 8:30pm but I could easily fall asleep. It’s been a long couple of days, but full of so much good stuff. A team from University Covenant in Davis, CA is here for the week serving in a variety of ways. Last night they joined us for our English conversation class. This is always one of the highlights of my week and this group brought so much energy and enthusiasm with them. Our apartment was buzzing! People were anxious to meet the visitors and practice their English. It was awesome to hear all of the conversations happening. For many of the people who come to the English conversation club there isn’t much of a chance to interact with foreigners or to practice English outside of a classroom. It’s also an opportunity to interact with Christians and ask questions about why a team of young people would pay a lot of money to come and serve in Colombia. We constantly see that these conversation groups open the doors to talk about faith and life and how they intersect.
Today I was able to join the team and take the Metro Cable up the hillside to the Santo Domingo neighborhood where they have been hosting programs for kids. It has been awhile since I’ve gotten to help first hand with a kids program and I loved it. I got to help with the games! It was hot and the sun was incredibly intense, as was the wind, but we played our hearts out. Loved interacting with the team and the children. So thankful for these opportunities to break out of my daily routine and meet new people and serve with my hands and feet.
We miss Julio and can’t wait to have him home, but are so thankful for the opportunity he has had to be an ambassador for the children here in Colombia as he interacts with high school students in the USA. He’s worked with an incredible team this week of people from literally around the globe. He has learned so much as he’s served this week. Check out this quick video!
