How much does prayer cost?

blog-cuties

Please pray!  Pray that these children and their families can understand that we all have equal access to the one, true, loving Lord of life.  Read what my friend, Jan, wrote (edited a bit by yours truly) to a friend after our recent visit, you may remember me asking for prayer some time ago for the very same mom:

“We went across the river to tell the story of Noah to our little group of Fulani ladies.  Only 1 was there as the other was on a trip we knew about and the third, we tried to telephone but we couldn’t make contact.  We decided to put the lesson off a week.  So we talked for quite a while with H.  She has an older adult son who disappeared 3 yrs ago and she has NEVER heard from him nor does she know if he is even alive.  She said a Fulani woman came to her the other day and said she had three chickens to sell and if she bought them for an absurd amount she would pray 3 times for her son to return.  She was tempted to do this to bring her son back to her.  We counseled her strongly against it as God hears EVERYONE’S prayers and one person’s prayers are not counted more effective than another’s to God.  In other words, we don’t PAY people to pray for us. She has as much access to God as this person!  It relieved her mind to know this and we promised to pray about her son too knowing God will reveal what she needs to know about him in His timing.  It hurts to hear that a poor, desperate mother who WANTS to know what happened to her child is being coerced by someone posing as more “spiritual” than others with a special line to heaven that one has to PAY to have access to.  I told her that the Bible says there will be many people who will try and trick us into believing things that are not true which is why we need to know what God says and we need to have a relationship with Him and He will help us.  His help is the best help of all because he knows ALL things and is ALL powerful.”  So, even though we didn’t get to have our bible study, we did have a good talk with H about something that was on her heart.  It was a God ordained day, I think!”

So what does prayer cost?  A little time, a little thought, and a little faith.  Anyone can pray. Please pray for H, for news for her of her son S, for our friends here and your friends there to understand that prayer is free, amazing grace is free, that the God of love is longing to hear our prayers!

About danforth

As Covenant missionaries, we are working with all the tribal groups of the Central African Republic (CAR) but are trying to give special attention to the Fulani, a Musxlim, cattle herding, and semi-nomadic people group. We live on an experimental/training farm, near a mission station which has a hospital plus bible and nursing schools. We are establishing relationships with the local people groups through compassion ministries; Roy through agriculture and Aleta through public health and visitation, in order, ultimately, to share the good news of Jesus the Messiah with them. CAR is one of the least developed countries in the world and is currently in continual crisis (since the coup in March 2013), so reaching out in compassion is key to reaching their hearts. Due to the ongoing conflict and resultant ethnic cleansing in CAR, we are crossing the border to interact with our Fulani contacts.
