As hard as it is to wait, I am a firm believer in saving all things Christmas until after Thanksgiving. We were up in Michigan this past weekend with family to consume massive amounts of turkey and then headed home with the car blasting our first Christmas carols of the season. Yesterday afternoon we put up our tree and our house is once again full of twinkling lights to remind us of the coming light that we celebrate in the birth of Christ.
This morning was full of the usual Monday routine. We packed lunches and tried to get a handle on what all needed to happen in the coming days. New to the routine however, was our daughter who was very excitedly finding treasures around the house to “wrap” and then “gift” to others in our family. Her face lit up again and again as she walked into the room and handed her over the gifts she had picked out just for us – a reminder to us all that there truly is so much joy in giving and practicing generosity.
We have all heard about Black Friday. And now there is Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday. But have you heard about #GivingTuesday? Here is what the website says about it:
We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals. Now, we have #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. On Tuesday, December 1, 2015, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.
It’s a simple idea. Just find a way for your family, your community, your company or your organization to come together to give something more. Then tell everyone you can about how you are giving. Join us and be a part of a global celebration of a new tradition of generosity.
So, our family has been dreaming up ways that we are going to give of our time and our resources in this season and into the future. And we challenge you to do the same! And if you have been thinking about become a financial partner in support of our family and the ministry we have been called to in Ecuador, now is a great time to do so. But whether it is with our family, the non-profit that your best friend is involved with or the public high school your babysitter attends, we encourage you to celebrate generosity!
And check out this great little video that our kids and their best friends helped us to create to thank those who are already in partnership with us and encourage others to join us!
Love these kiddosand their creativity! Happy holidays! Love to you all?
