Joy

Each day, I have been trying to name those things for which I am thankful; those things that bring me joy. Some days it is easier than others. Saturday was one of those days as I got to “connect” with two special groups of people. In the morning I was able to have time with the regional facilitators for the youth leadership program I have been supporting. We had an online meeting to check in, hear from each other, be encouraged by God’s word in John 21, talk about how the process had been going up until the quarantine and dream together about ways to continue the process during quarantine and after. I love seeing the faithfulness and creativity of these leaders. One of them doesn’t have regular internet access, but was able to call my phone and we put him and his wife on speaker phone so they could hear and participate in the meeting. We missed seeing their faces, but were so appreciative that they could be a part of the call. Pray for these leaders as they continue to find creative ways to reach out to the youth in their local communities.

In the afternoon I was able to “hang out” online with our local Jr. High youth group. This is the second week we have attempted to gather them online. Not all of the kids have access to internet, but those who do joined in and there was about 9 of us in total. We played a fun icebreaker game and talked about our weekly reflection question. They shared what they like and don’t like about being quarantined in their homes. We did some drawing games together which they loved. It was good to be together and remind them that they are a part of a community that cares.
