Always be prepared

Sunday morning Julio and I had the privilege of visiting one of the Covenant Churches in Bello, a municipality north of Medellin. Pastor Omar has been inviting us to come and visit and I was happy for the opportunity to encourage one of our children’s ministry leaders who serves in that church. It was a great day for a drive, though the narrow street down to the church makes for an interesting experience. Thank goodness Julio is an excellent driver!

We arrived and the praise and worship time had begun. As soon as we entered the pastor greeted us and quickly asked Julio to preach. Julio had thought that might happen. What he didn’t anticipate was that the pastor wanted him to preach on something for Mother’s day. So, with some quick preparation and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Julio was able to share God’s word with the congregation.

Meanwhile, I joined Andreina, the children’s ministry volunteer, with her class. She had 21 students ages 3-7 in her classroom. They had so much fun singing together and then reviewing what they had been learning from the Bible. Right as they were getting ready to do a craft the electricity went out. The room we were in had brick walls and no windows. Needless to say it was dark. Still, we were prepared. Thank goodness for technology and cell phones with flash lights. The children worked on their craft and finished with some more singing as we held up the flash lights. I’m so impressed by Andreina’s dedication and creativity. It was a joy to participate in her class and see the love she has for the children and the love they have for her. We thank God for this church and the way it has impacted the lives of children, youth, and adults.
