April happenings

How is it possible that April is almost over already ?! This has been a full month for the Isaza family. We can’t complain, though. There have been so many highlights this month. Here’s a little recap!

We had the opportunity to travel to California and spend several days visiting churches, connecting with friends, making new friends, etc. I, Katie, was there for work and had the privilege of teaching two seminars. The first seminar I taught was at the Covenant’s Hispanic Center for Theological Studies and over 50 people participated. The seminar focused on equipping people to use a children’s ministry resource that has been developed for Hispanic churches. I also had the privilege of teaching at a Hispanic church in Simi Valley and walking people through a new resource that is available for use in new members classes. I love teaching and I love the opportunity to interact with people and hear their stories.

While in California we also had the privilege of visiting a retirement community, where we met a couple that was part of the first team of Covenant missionaries to serve in Colombia. Wow do they have stories to tell! We were so humbled by their desire to support us and introduce us to others in the community. They organized a whole evening for us to share about our upcoming ministry in Colombia. Again, we met so many new people, many who have served internationally themselves.

Another highlight from our trip was speaking at two Hispanic churches. We were invited to share our testimony and our call to serve in Colombia. We were given such a warm welcome! We were encouraged by their passion for God and loved the chance to worship with them.

Here in Chicago we’ve had the great opportunity to visit small groups a different churches, to give them just a little taste of Colombia! In fact, this month we have two more similar events coming up! We have learned that many times people have a preconceived notion of what Colombia is like and for us it’s really important for people to understand all of the many complexities of this beautiful country. God is at work and it’s so important to tell that story!

Now, this week we look forward to celebrating Easter. With the passing of our friend Jerry, we have been reflecting quite a bit on the hope of the Gospel. Death is an ugly thing, but it does not have the last word. We are reminded again of the power of the resurrection. 1 Peter 1:3-4 says, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade…”

Our prayer is that you would experience this hope this Easter.  To find out how you can pray for us, click here.
