What a wonderful time we had celebrating Layha/Tabaski with friends across the way. This holiday and the end of Ramadan fasting are their two BIG holidays. Because Tabaski commemorates Abraham’s trek up to the mountaintop to obediently sacrifice his son, and because the Lord provided a ram for sacrifice instead, the Fulani/Muslixms eat lamb and mutton for this feast. We were invited to more homes than we could get to, and we even showed up at one guy’s son’s house by mistake! It turned out to be, probably, the most palatial home in the town. We were warmly welcomed and fed over and over again. We chatted and laughed and shared, and at one home Jan & I showed what it is like to get on a camel, because our hostess had actually ridden one. Oh how we laughed when she described the camel rising up, sure that she was going to die right then and there as she tipped back. We treasure these friendships, thankful that we can share our lives, both the serious and the silly.
