If the sun is shining at 5pm, you most likely will find Roy playing sports with his friends. If the clay/dirt basketball and volleyball courts are a bit on the wet side, you’ll find him weeding them, sometimes with his friends, if they show up. He always brings his favorite basketball, though he and others have provided all sorts of balls to be kept at the ready on the mission. Now that we live out at the CEFA farm, he has to drive to the mission, by motorcycle or truck, choosing the vehicle depending on passengers or work. Yesterday he took off on his motorbike, happy because the sun was shining, hoping for a good game, maybe with the 6’5” soldier from town who used to be on the national basketball team. But…uh-oh. When he arrived and reached into his motorcycle’s carryall, there was no ball! Bummer. It turns out that the ball bounced right out of the box, somewhere along the 5 kilometer road, on an especially bumpy turn. When he came home, he told his sad story to the night watchman, who then sent a couple of his kids out, first thing in the morning, to search in the 4’ tall roadside grass. They found the ball and made Roy’s day!
