Greetings from the hot & humid tropics!
Imagine yourself, a Fulani Musxlim woman, taking care of your 38year old sister, Fadi, who is dying of breast cancer. She is the mother of three children, the youngest being only nine months old. You have children yourself, the youngest being five years old, but they are fending for themselves back at home in the village while you tend your only sister. At the mission hospital, you carry on the normal chores of cooking over an open fire, looking for firewood in the nearby jungle near the river. You wash everything by hand at one of the communal water faucets there. You carry your sister’s baby on your back while you try to do everything you can to ease your sister’s pain. There is no hospice and no morphine, only mild pain relievers like aspirin and Tylenol. You sleep on the floor by her bed in the private (thankfully) room and you watch and wait. You have resigned yourself to caring for your sister as she wastes away, because what God wills, God wills.
Would you pray for hope, with us, for Fadi and her family?
