Entering Holy Week

Today we observe Palm Sunday. During the season of lent I’ve been thinking about ways that we engage the story of Holy Week. As a mom of two little boys, my question becomes how do I help my children enter the story, finding out for themselves what it means that Jesus lived, died and rose again? I want to be intentional this week about the ways that we read Scripture, that we pray together, that we reflect on Jesus and how the good news transforms us. I want my children to experience first-hand this story of God’s love for them and all humanity. It just so happens that this is their week-long break from school so I will have a lot of time to find ways to bring the events of Holy week into our daily conversation and activities. Today as we were unable worship with our church community as we stayed home due to colds, we spent time together reading, acting out, telling each other the story of Palm Sunday as we yelled, “Hosanna, Hosanna” together. This week my prayer is that together as a family we will live the story.
