This summer we have been blessed to have the presence of several interns in Colombia – Marcus in Barranquilla, Amanda in Monteria and Nick in Medellin. We’ve especially appreciated Nick as Sam has loved the time to spend with a teenager 🙂 We have been so impressed by each one of these people and their willingness to learn and serve in their cities. We are thankful for the Colombian Covenant Church that has received them, for the families that have hosted them, and for the ways they are teaching them.
At the same time we have been blessed by a team from our home church in Chicago that came to serve and learn this past week. It was a small team of five wonderful people who spent the week teaching English, spending time with boys at the Casa de Paz boys home, interacted with young adults from all over the world in the International Youth Conference. We are thankful for their openness to come and learn about the culture, to engage in relationship with people here, and to reflect on how God calls us to serve wherever we are. We are again thankful for the openness of the Colombians to engage with them, to open their hearts and homes to them, and build relationships with them. We thank God that this is not just about a one-time mission trip, but about a desire to work together and build a relationship to partner together in sharing the good news of Jesus.
