February

This was sent by one of our supporting churches, which I appreciated as I entered this Easter Season…

ash wednesday and beyond

On February 22nd the season of Lent begins.  The Lenten season by walking through the book “A Place At The Table”, by Chris Seay.  Our Peace and Justice team in collaboration with our Spiritual Formation team are encouraging us to enter into 40 days of solidarity with the poor.

Seay’s challenge is created/worded like this:

In our culture of consumption it is easy to forget the poor that Jesus cared so much about.  We get caught up in acquiring, buying, and filling our lives and our stomachs – often without thought.  The author Seay suggests that paradoxically the more we consume the more our undisciplined spirits wither and starve.

The point of the book is to create self-reflection, prayer, transformation, and focus.  The book challenges us to spend 40 days with less, and then actually try to use the resources we have save by spending less in a way that benefits others and serves the poor in concrete ways..

We are about two weeks out on the road to the cross.  May we be conscious of who we are in light of the cross and who we have become because of the cross….
