Our kids, Sam and Anna, are missionaries serving Genesis, an amazing outreach with many facets. We visited the care center, where the sick and dying are lovingly attended to. Pastor Trevor realized the community’s deep need when he came upon a deathly ill man on the church’s doorstep one morning, and did something about it. We were able to catch a bit of the worship at morning devotionals, to see a bit of his vision being carried out.
We visited the kitchen where nutritious meals are served, oftentimes supplemented by local farmers’ fresh produce We saw the garden in a bag project, which opens up the opportunity for anyone, including the patients who recover enough to return home, to have fresh veggies at their fingertips, regardless of yard spaceand we were able to interact with Sharon, the care center’s administrator. Just the short time we had with her was a breath of fresh air and gave us insight into her heart for the ministry.
Next we visited the Khula “creche” or preschool run by Genesis. We quickly found that it is much much more than just a preschool, though seeing all the kids being blessed was a treat! There is a weekly mobile clinic, complete with dentistry, that is held on the property.
We met some lovely women, working on learning beading at the living skills center there.
Anna had baked a cake to share at tea time, and my goodness the staff was delighted!
Roy was enthusiastic about their vegetable production which compliments their feeding program for the children. They are able to sell their extras to a local restaurant! How wonderful it was to meet first hand some of the people whose lives are touched daily by Genesis, to be able to pray for them and for our kids with faces and places clearly in our thoughts.
