Some of our closest M friends here in town have crossed, at least women and children, but some are choosing to stay, being quite typically fatalistic about what will happen tomorrow – “if Allah wills it”. They continue on with their everyday lives carrying burdens on their heads and in their hearts.
My dear friend, Hajja Hawa, who I am reading through the bible in stories with, came to me this past weekend to tell me she was crossing over to Cameroon to wait this out. I will miss her, but hopefully we’ll be able to visit each other in the meantime. May the Lord have mercy on this country!
