Happy Saint Patrick’s Day OR Happy Guys Throwing Things Day!

Ben roaring after a pitchfork toss

Ben Wilkerson is our resident wannabe Sean Connery – not because he’s a world famous spy, but because he’s a SCOT!!! Ben, who is more Irish than Scottish but definitely prefers claiming the latter, organized a Celtic sport celebration, and he was just wishing he had a kilt lying around. Oh well, a green t-shirt and shorts had to make do. The ladies sat on the sidelines, well , some of the time we sat, but when the sledge hammers started twirling, most of us took cover behind trees or up the trees!

The Turk and Festen cousins all sat in the tree, watching the games but also posing for their traditional cousins’ photo for Grandma Hull.

Meanwhile a budding romance takes place on the sidelines. Luca Cone gives Charlie Shinar a flower and then…

Give the St. Paddy’s princess a flower

Notice her daddy in the background, throwing things around with the guys, but does Charlie care???

She puts it in her hair

Then comes the hug!

The guys had their competitive spirit flying, while tossing logs and boulders and pitch-forked gunny sacks full of who knows what.

Getting ready for COMPETITION

Josh pitching the sack up over the high wire

Roy twirling the sledge before hurling it

Luke prepares himself, and 1, 2, 3…

…let it fly!

After they got through throwing the traditional logs and boulders, they went looking for other things to hurl through the air! Seriously!! Long bamboo poles and Petunk/Boule metal balls were among the chosen items. Thankfully the kids and dogs had wandered off by then!

Sure and begorren I think a grand time was had by all!

About danforth

As Covenant missionaries, we are working with all the tribal groups of the Central African Republic (CAR) but are trying to give special attention to the Fulani, a Musxlim, cattle herding, and semi-nomadic people group. We live on an experimental/training farm, near a mission station which has a hospital plus bible and nursing schools. We are establishing relationships with the local people groups through compassion ministries; Roy through agriculture and Aleta through public health and visitation, in order, ultimately, to share the good news of Jesus the Messiah with them. CAR is one of the least developed countries in the world and is currently in continual crisis (since the coup in March 2013), so reaching out in compassion is key to reaching their hearts. Due to the ongoing conflict and resultant ethnic cleansing in CAR, we are crossing the border to interact with our Fulani contacts.
