Recently I also visited the World Vision (WV) warehouse where they are storing supplies. Frank (who I wrote about in my last post) was taking inventory of all the pieces that have come for the 3 water systems with wells that will be installed in the Saga neighborhood. In a recent CKC update, they referred to the difficulty they have had in getting some of the supplies to Gemena. Well, most of them have now arrived. These came by a direct freight flight from Goma to Gemena within the last 2 weeks. I believe there are about 5 more tons of supplies yet to come which include the bolts to assemble these tanks.
Each of the 3 water tanks will hold 108 cubic meters. They will be installed on a stand 11 m above ground with a solar system to power the pumps and fill the tanks. There will be a separate distribution system for each well and tank, I think with 8 kiosks each.
Once the remainder of the supplies arrive, and they are working on arranging that charter, then the WV Kinshasa office will let bids for constructing the tanks. Construction/assembly will begin once the winning company has been chosen and then can make arrangements for the work in Gemena. Frank explained to me that they will accept bids from companies around the country, those that have the capability to build tanks of this type.
Just one of the I beam legs for the tanks weighs over 300 kgs!
