What’s in a name?

In six months, there will be a third kid in my midst. I’m not gonna lie, we have been struggling a lot with naming this one. But this is nothing new – we named each of our children carefully, intentionally. Maybe it’s because we can sometimes be a little old-fashioned, but each of our children have names that mean something important for that particular moment in our journey, as well as our hopes and dreams for them.

My daughter, Aurora Eve: the dawn of new life. It’s an obvious connection for a first child, but we pray that she some day becomes one who brings new life into the lives of everyone around her.

My son, Caedmon Jace: the warrior healer. We loved the paradox of these two names together, and pray that he becomes one who is passionate about bringing healing into this world, a man driven by God’s vision of recreation.

What’s in a name?

A name is identity.

As you consider how you’ll name the various ministries under your guidance, remember that the name you give them sets tone and expectations, but most importantly, it casts vision.

Do so with care.

If it’s a girl, how about Junia? We could use a few more of them in the world!! 🙂
