I asked the Lord….

Who is the Almighty, that we should serve Him?  What would we gain by praying to him?   Job 21:15

3 days of merit making for and chanting over Tan’s body

much expense was given to ensure Tan’s “next life”

the final good-bye before cremation

Are we people of no hope?  How do we face the grief of losing loved ones and the uncertainties of life here on earth?  How are our prayers any different than of those around us?  As we walked with Nat through the sickness and death of her mom (Tan) we were often on our knees in tears, begging God to intervene.  He brought life to Tan in ways we can’t see.  She was a woman with no hope and many fears.  She truly changed before our eyes in the months she was with us at ALC.  We saw life come to her, even as death approached her on this earth.  In the midst of much pain she was thanking God and seeing His goodness to her.  We saw Nat choose joy in her suffering and never giving up.   Yes, we admit our struggle in God’s choosing not to heal Tan and the relatives blaming Tan’s turn to Christianity for all the suffering she experienced.  Our feelings sometimes were not unlike Job’s in the verse above.   Yet, even in our discouragement, God was our strength.  When we had nothing left to give…He was the faithful One to us.  We are reminded once again how temporal life on this earth is.  Tan has gone before us…she is no longer suffering and we will see her again!

Lord, the Lord Almighty, may those who hope in you not be disgraced because of me; God of Israel, may those who seek you not be put to shame because of me.  Psalm 69:6

preparing to pay our last respects to Tan

being God’s presence in Tan’s village

choosing to serve by washing dishes morning through evening for all the guests who came

May Nat’s fire to bring Christ to her family and village never be extinguished
