LONDON, ENGLAND (August 9, 2012) – Covenanter Janay DeLoach garnered a bronze medal in the long jump on Wednesday by the narrowest of margins.

DeLoach jumped 22 feet, 7¼ inches, a mere centimeter – less than half an inch – ahead of fourth-place finisher Ineta Radevica of Latvia. Finishing first and second respectively were DeLoach’s teammate, Brittney Reese, with a jump of 23-4½, and Elena Sokolova of Russia with a leap of 23-2 1/3.

DeLoach who attends Crossroads Covenant Church in Loveland, Colorado, wrote on her blog this morning, “Today, after just waking up (I had maybe 5 hours of sleep with all the excitement and adrenaline still running through my veins), I remembered first to praise God for this good fortune. I am blessed beyond my imagination and wish to share with the world that I COULD NOT have done it without him first.”

The Olympian helped set a record for the U.S. women, who captured seven track and field medals in one night.

Members of the Loveland congregation gathered together at the church to watch the event as it was live streamed.
