News Briefs: Reed Webcast Draws International Viewers

CHICAGO, IL (May 23, 2011) – Viewers in 10 countries watched the live webcast of the memorial service for retired Evangelical Covenant Church missionary Jerry Reed, which was broadcast Saturday from Anderson Chapel on the campus of North Park University.

The webcast was streamed in Spanish and is now available for viewing online. An English version will be posted at a later date. Viewers were logged in from the United States, Spain, Ecuador, Mexico, Colombia, France, Chile, Sweden, Switzerland, and New Zealand.

Reed, 73, died April 10. An earlier memorial service for Reed was conducted April 23 at Grace Covenant Church in Spring Valley, California.

Reed and his wife, Nancy, were called as career missionaries during the 1965 Covenant Annual Meeting. The couple served for 10 years in Ecuador and another 12 years in Mexico.

Three Students Honored for 4.0 GPAs

CHICAGO, IL – Although North Park Theological Seminary normally gives only one Ahnfeldt Medallion for highest grade point average, three students each received the honor for perfect 4.0 grade point averages (GPA).

Recipients honored during the school’s commencement are Stephen Hoden, David Bjorlin, and Hauna Ondrey.

Field award winners include Isabel Hughes, history; Bjorlin, theology; Jennifer McDonald, ministry; and Andrew Vanover, bible.

Other awards recipients include Magnus Hillbo, preaching; Stephen Williams, 2011 Chicago Sunday Evening Club Preaching Award; Caroline McClain, community service award; LaBrandi Thomas, Christian formation award, Sarah Henry, youth ministry award; Kelly Johnston, Greek language award; and Hoden, Hebrew language award.
