MUNDELEIN, IL (September 10, 2008) – Following is the text of the “In It Together Covenant” developed during a two-day leadership event.

In It Together Covenant

As part of the leadership community within the Evangelical Covenant Church, I aspire to the highest Christian ideals for: growth as a disciple of Christ, competence as a servant of Christ, and collaboration as a colleague in Christ.

As a growing disciple of Christ, I commit to GROW by pursuing: God’s word, relationships that bring encouragement and accountability to my faith, obedient living characterized by integrity and authenticity in every area of my life, and a posture of worshipful response to God in all circumstances.

In striving to be a competent servant of Christ, I commit to an ever-deepening understanding of how God has made me, a life-long pursuit of training and skill building, receptivity to areas for growth, serving with conviction, and finding call at the intersection of personal gifts and kingdom needs.

In seeking to collaborate as a colleague in Christ, I commit to conducting myself toward other leaders by:
•    Praying for one another
•    Showing respect, valuing others above myself, as Christ as modeled
•    Practicing open, honest and respectful communication
•    Forgiving, and seeking forgiveness
•    Fairly representing the positions of others
•    Seeking to build each other up, not tear each other down
•    Seeking first to understand, then to be understood
•    Representing the whole church, even while I implement my part
•    Keeping others informed of relevant information

This I do for the glory of God, for the good of the Church, and the needs of the world.
