GREEN LAKE, WI (June 23, 2008) – Advance teams are already in place at the Green Lake Conference Center preparing for the arrival of hundreds of delegates this week for the 123rd Annual Meeting of the Evangelical Covenant Church.

Although various boards and committees will be meeting today and tomorrow, the meeting officially begins with Tuesday evening’s worship service, which will be broadcast live over the Covenant website beginning at 7 p.m. CDT. Both the Wednesday evening and Thursday evening ordination services also will be broadcast live over the website.

To join the broadcasts, visit the Covenant website at www.covchurch.org and follow the instructions found in the live broadcast link.

Highlights of this year’s meeting include election of a new president to replace retiring President Glenn Palmberg. Nominated to succeed Palmberg is Gary Walter, who currently serves as executive minister of the Department of Church Growth and Evangelism. The new president assumes office September 1.

Special awards to be presented include  the traditional Irving J. Lambert and T.W. Anderson awards, as well as presentation of a Paul Carlson Partnership Compassion Award.

Sixteen churches will be welcomed into denominational membership.

Retiring Covenant missionaries Jerry and Vicky Love will be recognized as will retiring members of the Covenant Executive Board.

Two resolutions are scheduled for discussion: the Resolution on Racial Righteousness, and the Resolution on Global Slavery and Human Trafficking, both recommended by the Commission on Christian Action.

The first Covenant Resource Paper – the Evangelical Covenant Church and the Bible – will be presented for action by delegates. The resource paper process was approved by delegates to the 2006 Annual Meeting in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Delegates also commissioned the first paper to address how the Covenant reads scripture.

Copies of the proposed resource paper in both English and Spanish will be found among the list of Annual Meeting documents on the website.

Detailed administrative reports from various ministry areas will be found online, as will the names and some brief biographical detail about the individuals being ordained and commissioned.

The Communications news team will be writing and posting news stories and publishing photographs during each day of the three-day meeting, including stories on each of the worship service messages. All of the detail on decisions reached, including election results, will be posted on the Covenant website as soon as those actions have been taken.
