CHICAGO, IL (June 17, 2008) – Covenant World Relief (CWR) is working with the Midwest Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church to develop and implement responses to assist victims of widespread flooding that has devastated large portions of several states in the Midwestern part of the country.

A special fund has been established for those desiring to contribute to the relief efforts, says Jim Sundholm, CWR director. Checks may be made payable to Covenant World Relief, earmarked for Flood Relief, and sent to Covenant World Relief, 5101 N. Francisco Avenue, Chicago, IL, 60625.

Online donations by credit card may be made by visiting this special Flood Relief link. All gifts will be acknowledged by the business office for charitable deduction purposes.

A Covenant News Service story last week reported severe damage to many homes and businesses owned by Covenanters.

Unfortunately, the outlook going forward is not positive either, with weather experts predicting more rain this week that will raise the Mississippi River to a point where it is likely to break through protective levees at 26 or 27 different points between Davenport, Iowa, and St. Louis, Missouri, reports CNN News. Another report indicated that 83 of Iowa’s 99 counties have sustained major flood damage and are considered disaster areas. Parts of Nebraska and Wisconsin also have experienced severe flooding.

More information will be published in this online Covenant news report as it becomes available.
