Seminary Names New Dean of Academic Life

CHICAGO, IL (May 9, 2008) – Linda Cannell will be the new dean of academic life at North Park Theological Seminary, assuming her duties with the new academic year.

Cannell currently is the Lois W. Bennett Distinguished Professor of Educational Ministries at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, Massachusetts.

CannellShe served from 1990-2006 as professor of educational ministries at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. From 2000-2006 she was director of the Ph.D. in Educational Studies at Trinity. Cannell has lectured at colleges and seminaries in countries that include the Philippines, Kenya, and Brazil.

Cannell has been committed to connecting theological schools with the local church.
After arriving at Gordon-Conwell, she established the New England Children’s Ministries Network, which connects and resources congregations with small-size children’s ministries.

She has worked for many years with the development and evaluation of curriculum for such companies as Scripture Press and David C. Cook. Her research and publications are focused on theological education and on children’s ministry. Cannell is co-author of Children Matter: Celebrating their Place in the Church, Family and Community.

She also currently is director of CanDoSpirit Network, which seeks to creatively further international leadership development, and has served as a member of the Executive Board for the Association of Theological Schools (ATS).

A native of Canada, Cannell received her Bachelor of Religious Education degree from Central Baptist Seminary in Toronto, a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, and a Master of Religious Education and Doctor of Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
