Funeral Service Thursday for Carl H. Janson

GRAND RAPIDS, MI (March 5, 2007) – A funeral service will be conducted Thursday evening for Carl H. Janson, 89, former superintendent of the Northwest Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church from 1967 to 1981. He died Friday.

Visitation will be observed from 2 to 4 p.m. and again from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the Alt-Shawmut Hills Funeral Home, 2120 Lake Michigan Drive, in Grand Rapids. The funeral service will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at First Evangelical Covenant Church, 1933 Tremont Boulevard NW, also in Grand Rapids.

Janson was born January 20, 1918, in Buffalo, New York. He graduated from North Park College in 1941 and from North Park Theological Seminary in 1945.

He married Doris Oman on June 19, 1945, and was ordained by the Covenant two years later.

Prior to serving as superintendent, Janson served Mission Covenant Church in Wiley Heights, Washington; Salem Covenant Church in Duluth, Minnesota; Park Avenue Covenant Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota; Mission Covenant Church in Muskego, Michigan; and Redeemer Covenant Church in Chicago, Illinois.

Janson retired in 1981. The couple has two daughters, Sharon Johnson and Nancy Tournell.
