MT. PROSPECT, IL (June 7, 2006) – Northwest Covenant Church (NWCC) recently concluded its yearlong celebration of 50 years of ministry. Four major anniversary events – a picnic, a brunch, a luncheon and a banquet – each following a celebrative worship service, drew several hundred people.

Former pastors who participated in the celebrations were David Noreen, Jerome Engseth, Eldon Toll, Greg Ralston, and former youth worker (now pastor) Bruce Johnson. At the final anniversary worship service on May 31, Donn Engebretson, executive vice-president of the Evangelical Covenant Church, spoke on Acts 1:1-8 and encouraged the congregation that “We Are The Plan.”

The theme of the anniversary celebration was “Remember, Rejoice and Rededicate.” During the year, several charter and more recent members shared memories of Northwest Covenant’s early years in a Sunday morning segment called “Northwest Moments.”

Separate reunions were planned for youth group members during Greg Ralston and Bruce Johnson’s tenures in the 1980’s, and also for members of Soul Purpose, NWCC’s high school singing group in the 1970’s.

Northwest Covenant Church is located in a northwest suburb of Chicago. J. Paul Thompson is senior pastor.
